Karma Kat Cafe, located in Mount Pleasant, Mich., is owned by Mystie Beckwith. The establishment rescues cats and kittens in hopes of finding them a forever home. All of their cats are adoptable, but customers can visit without the pressure of taking one home. The small visitation fee goes towards cat food, cat litter, medical bills, etc.
At the time of my visit, Sept. 14, Beckwith said there were at least 30 cats in her custody. This includes the sick kittens in quarantine and cats that have yet to have their vaccines which are kept in the back room. Even though Beckwith barely had anymore room, she took in another kitten that day from a father-daughter duo that was unable to care for it.
Beckwith’s love for cats is what keeps the cafe running, alongside donations and volunteers, of course. Karma Kat Cafe is a second chance for these misplaced cats.
Mystie Beckwith, owner of Karma Kat Cafe in downtown Mount Pleasant, Mich., names off the cats to customers Monday, Sept. 14, 2020.
Stripes gets adopted on Monday, Sept. 14, 2020 and is renamed Dionysus or Dino for short. Beckwith knew that the kitten would find a home fairly quick after having arrived only two weeks prior.
Customers coddle Dionysus Monday, Sept. 14, 2020 as his adoption paperwork is finalized.
